JUNIOR EUROVISION 2008 A HORRIFYING STORY

The design of the set included a semicircular tank of water representing Limassol’s seafront.

We used inflatable balls painted with the flag of each participating country. These were attached to an under-water mechanism to move them in and out of the stage.

Towards the end of the show which was broadcasted live to 40 million viewers, on the 13th out of 16 songs, the operator rang me saying “I think we have a problem!” I cannot find the words to describe how terrified I was but I knew I had to fix the problem.

I waited until the singer left the stage, rushed in during the 40-second off-screen gap and I inspected the mechanism. Everything seemed to be ok.

Needless to say, my heart was racing until the end of the show. It was an unforgettable experience.
